Dorothy H. Powe is promoted to manager-financial analyst for the International Group of McCormick & Co. Inc.

She will be responsible for managing the group's strategic planning process, evaluating capital investments and undertaking a variety of special project analyses. She joined the company in 1988 as senior financial analyst for the group.

She previously held a variety of positions at Scott Paper Co. in Philadelphia. She also served as a financial analyst for W.R. Grace & Co. in Lexington, Mass.

James V. McKay is named safety manager for the McCormick/Schilling Division. He previously held several human relations positions at the Miller Brewing Co. Before that, he held safety positions with Penn-Dixie Steel Corp. and the Detroit Diesel Allison Division of General Motors.

Kim M. Knight is named marketing analyst in the marketing controllership of the McCormick/Schilling Division. She will be responsible for pricing review, promotion analysis, forecast variance analysis and other financial support for the spice and extract brand group. She joined the company as cost accountant in 1984 and most recently worked as budget analyst. Before joining McCormick she held positions with Maryland Leasing Corp., SCM Corp., First National Bank of Maryland and Baltimore Federal Savings and Loan Association.

Joan Gillespie is appointed senior vice president of the Retail Marketing Division for the First National Bank of Maryland. She will direct all phases of the bank's retail marketing efforts, including product management, marketing research and advertising.

She was previously the marketing director for Equitable Bank.

At Signet Bank, James A. Shimer is promoted to vice president in the bank's commercial department in Glen Burnie, where he develops commercial deposit and loan businesses to support branch managers.

He joined the bank in 1968 as a management trainee.

Darlene L. Dickerson is promoted to assistant vice president in the bank's Retail Operations Department, where she is the officer in charge of return item processing. She joined the bank in 1971 as a junior accounting clerk in the special checking department. She most recently worked as operations officer.

Gilbert F. Kennedy is promoted to vice president in the corporate banking area, where he serves as a lender. He joined the bank in 1980 as a branch administration management trainee, and most recently worked as assistant vice president.

William H. Allen has rejoined Schlenger/Pitz Inc. as vice president and principal electrical engineer. He most recently worked at the Johns Hopkins Telescope Facility. The firm provides mechanical and electrical engineering services to architects, owners, and governmental agencies including preparation of reports, studies, legal testimony, plans and specifications for commercial, industrial, institutional and public buildings.

At EA Engineering, Science and Technology Inc., Eric R. Gundlach is appointed director, human resources. He previously was vice president for human resources for the Union Memorial Hospital. Before that, he was the employee relations coordinator for Fair Lanes Inc.

Interior design

Penny Bonda joins Rita St. Clair Associates, a Baltimore-based interior design firm, as a design consultant.

She will assist in strengthening and building the firm's base in Washington, with the eventual goal of opening another office.

She previously operated her own interior design consulting business in Washington called Cathcart/Bonda Inc.

Before that, she worked as a designer with the Bethesda interior design firm firm S.D. Jeffrey Associates.

Eddie Applefeld is named director of marketing for Market Center Association. The association comprises 27 square blocks consisting of downtown retail, hotels and restaurants.

He was previously director of marketing for Lexington Market.

At Eisner, Petrou & Associates Inc., David Groobert is named vice president-operations for the marketing and communications firm.

He joined in 1986 as an assistant account executive. He will be responsible for accounts including Jos. A. Bank Clothiers, Dominion Lands and the Hard Rock Cafe in Washington.
