No. 1 Oakland Mills shut out by Bowie

September 18, 1990

Even the best high school soccer team in the area can't play up to expectations when four starters are missing.

Oakland Mills found that out yesterday. With three senior starters -- Ryan Burke, Dan Bickell and Mike Fitzgibbon -- sidelined for disciplinary reasons and ace midfielder Mal Gilliam out with injury, the Scorpions couldn't match goals with Bowie's Bulldogs and the No. 1-ranked team fell, 2-0.

Todd Hicks and Seth Brannon scored for the winners, who allowed Oakland Mills just nine shots. Goalie Blake Hunter only had to make two saves.
