FINKSBURG - Secretary of the Environment Martin W. Walsh Jr. joined county officials Thursday morning for a tour of Phoenix Recycling, a private business run by Jackson Haden.
Phoenix has a contract to sort, store and sell most of the recyclable material collected by Carroll County through recycling bins and the center on Route 97.
Walsh "wanted to take a look at the facility. We've heard so much about it," said John Goheen, a spokesman for the Maryland Department of the Environment.
"Efforts like this, whether public or private, are going to be very important," Goheen said, as the state moves ahead in its goal to have counties recycle 15 to 20 percent of all their solid waste by 1994.
