Be it noted that while everyone was getting maudlin over the Ellis Island immigration museum, the first Haitian-American to win the Miss America crown was slinking down the runway at Atlantic City.

Speak about talent and endowment: Miss Illinois, aka Marjorie Judith Vincent, plays Chopin on the piano and studies law at Duke. Her parents are hard-working Haitian immigrants.

At last we have a Miss America who speaks both French and Creole. Way to go!
