1990 Girls Soccer Preview

Broadneck Bruins

September 13, 1990

TEXT: Head coach: David Lord (4th season) Assistant coaches: Ed Libely and Lee Wood.

1989 record: 9-5, lost to Chesapeake in region semifinals.

Returnees: Senior Meredith Huffines (MF); juniors Ava Tasker (MF), Dawn Frederick (stopper), Michelle Myer (wing) and Holly Mowry (G).

Newcomers: Freshman Amy Adams (striker).

Coach's outlook: "This is a completely different team. We lost 12 seniors from last year, so we're real young. We only have five starters back, but we have some real talented kids. I want to go 8-4. I think that's realistic. We'll see how well we do."

Anne Arundel County Sun outlook: Lord starts to list the players lost to graduation and eventually succumbs, saying, "There were just so many who had so much skill." Very true. But any team with Tasker, Huffines, Myer and Frederick has hope, no matter how much youth surrounds them. A big key is Mowry in goal. She won't have Betsy Given to help ease her into the starting job. It belongs solely to her now. How Broadneck fares in its first six games largely will determine its fate. Should be a much better team next year.
