Arundel Wildcats 1990 Girls Soccer Preview

September 13, 1990

Head coach: Greg Helms (3rd season)

Assistant coach: Donna McGowan.

1989 record: 1-6-4.

Returnees: Seniors Maria Mackey (striker), Amy Curran (FB) and Kasey Cummings (MF); juniors Patti Bartosiewicz (MF), Meghan Boettner (MF), Kelly Gridley (striker), Carrie Green (D), Michelle Harrison (G) and Pasha Freeman (MF).

Newcomers: Juniors Nicola Rust (striker), Julie Hartman (G-FB) and Amy Dorian (MF-D); sophomore Jen Luzier (FB); freshmen Barb Mueller, Pami Gosheff (MF), Wendy Gridley (MF-D) and Ellen Schmidt (MF).

Coach's outlook: "I'm optimistic, and as always, our goal is to have a winning season. After the last couple of years we're looking for improvement. We're returning nine varsity players, seven of which were starters, so I think the experience will pay off. Our strength will be our defense, and if we can score some goals we'll definitely win a few more games. Our overall team speed should hurt us, so we have to play smart."

Anne Arundel County Sun outlook: The Wildcats traditionally have had trouble finding the net and no one on their present roster seems ready to break that tradition. Arundel's defense is sound, however, and should keep it in every ballgame. Watch as the Wildcats improve their record to one game under .500.
