WESTMINSTER - James I. Melhorn has been elected chairman of the South Carroll Branch of the American Heart Association.
He is president and chief executive officer of Episcopal Ministries to the Aging Inc., the sponsor of Fairhaven continuing care retirement community and its subsidiary corporations, Fairhaven Medical Services Inc. and EMA Management Inc.
Melhorn began volunteering with the American Heart Association, Maryland Affiliate Inc., just under a year ago when the South Carroll Branch was formed. He has been chairman-elect under Neil Forthman, chairman.
As chairman, Melhorn will be responsible for chairing branch meetings, recruiting volunteers, monitoring and evaluating progress toward obtaining financial, program and communication goals, serving on the division board of directors and being the overall spokesman for the South Carroll Branch.
Melhorn has a bachelor's degree from Lebanon Valley College and master of divinity from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio.
He has been in the field of continuing care retirement community administration since 1971 and has been active in organizations relating to services to the aging.
Melhorn also is active in church and community organizations. He served as president of the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce in 1988 and vice president in 1987. He is vice president of the Maryland Chamber of Commerce.
Melhorn and his wife, Lora, live in Baltimore City.
