No Sox for Clemens

September 11, 1990|By Boston Globe

BOSTON -- Boston Red Sox manager Joe Morgan yesterday virtually ruled out Roger Clemens pitching this weekend in Chicago, but it appears Clemens will return sometime during the team's upcoming 10-game road trip if his shoulder continues to improve.

Clemens told Morgan Sunday that he might be able to pitch Friday. Asked yesterday if that timetable was possible, the manager said, "I doubt it. I don't think he'll pitch like he says, Friday or Saturday. He could if he's sound by then, but if not, he won't be pitching."

Clemens, who was working out with weights between games last night, is scheduled to undergo another Magnetic Resonance Imaging test tomorrow to examine the remaining undiagnosed ligament.
