AL -- Ken Griffey Sr. of the Seattle Mariners was named Player of the Week after going 12-for-19 to lead all AL hitters with a .632 average. He had two doubles and a homer, drove in seven runs and led the league with a .895 slugging percentage and .682 on-base percentage.

NL -- Doug Drabek, who won two games for the NL East-leading Pittsburgh Pirates, allowing two earned runs in 16 2/3 innings for a 1.08 ERA, was named Player of the Week.
