Help needed in child abuse prevention

CURRENT volunteers' news and needs:

Child Abuse Prevention Center of Maryland needs those volunteers who will work with one family in their home to help parents solve problems and build self-confidence. The volunteer will become a role model, supportive friend, advocate and caring companion who helps parents understand disciplining without abuse. Training is from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 17 and 18 at the Exchange Center, 1310 S. Charles St. Call 576-2414.

Baltimore Zoo wants volunteers for several areas of help such as on-site exhibit interpretation and program instruction as well as off-site outreach such as the Zoomobile, the traveling exhibit. Classes will be held in October and in November. Call: 396-7623.

Center Stage wants volunteer ushers for its 1990-91 season as well as other help. Those interested should attend the Usher Orientation from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 16 at the theater, 700 North Calvert St. Details: Robin Yasinow, 685-3200.

National Park Service wants volunteers to work at Fort McHenr National Monument and Historic Shrine with the Rangers at the museum information desk, for Fort maintenance and preservation and to lead guided tours. A three-day training course will be held Sept. 29, Oct. 6 and Oct. 13 at the Fort. Call Barbara Wehrman, 962-4290.

Meals on Wheels wants volunteer drivers and visitors between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. weekdays to provide meals and visits. Call Gaye Tawney, 321-5465.
